Since the start of the 21st century, life has been comforted but the living is disturbed. And for living, many people spend their entire life to earn money, reputation, or power. With passing time, people are struggling daily, well what does struggle means? It's just resistance in mind or body, let's say, for example, if I ask you to do labor work for 2 months, you might find it a struggle - Why? Because you haven't yet known the physical stamina and strength required to do that labor work whereas labor would do it without any effort or you can say it's a piece of cake for him. The struggle is just a resistance toward something, however, once that opposing thought is transformed or withdrawn from the mind then life seems like a play. Then you don't seek happiness, happiness is on all the time 24/7.
The scenario of today's generation:
Old men discuss religion
An Adult politics
And Young ones live a virtual life
Happiness in previous generations:
Sometimes it feels blessed to be born in this generation of the 21st Century. Certainly, because our generation has much more freedom than before, for instance, today if you feel insulted in a particular society, workplace, or at any residential place then simply you can migrate to a new one, whereas in earlier times there was a social fear of what would people/society say if I locate to a different area.
The reason for happiness in present times:
My grandfather used to tell me that they had to wait for around 3-4 months to receive a message from relatives through the post or telegram, whereas, nowadays in just a fraction of seconds we could contact our loved ones. Not just talk but thanks to advanced technology, we could see each other’s faces with video calls - which was a big disadvantage for the previous century.
At present date, To spend our time we have mobile games, laptops, cinemas, and social media which help when we feel lonely and we could spare our time with electronic gadgets and games. Apparently, older people used to have conversations to utilize their time and were active in outdoor games that strengthened their physique and release their mental trauma, games like boxing, kushti, and many more outdoor sports were played in ancient times.
If a man experienced air transport and traveled across his native country (in the 1800s) then he was considered the wealthiest man of the locality and people would respect him so much, because to travel overseas in that period wasn’t meant for everyone. However, today the facilities of airplanes are much more available to almost every citizen due to advancements and availability in the airline industry.
There are reports which prove that the number of occupations and employment have a dramatic incline from 1900 to 2010, which signifies that now more people are earning a living rather as compared to our forefathers.
Car insurances, Life insurance, home loans, education loans, and medical insurance which are meant to be basic amenities in an individual’s life are now easily available to people, nevertheless, the previous generation lack such benefits and spent their entire lives earning the above-mentioned facilities.
Even though we as a generation have numerous blessings with social security, material welfare, and tremendous potential to shift our gear to different terrain in life rather than - Eat - Sleep - Earn a living - Reproduce - Repeat.
With all fundamentals of life being taken care of why is it that we are mostly in a state of a disturbed mind and stressful body, what’s missing?
Let’s find out...
Once upon a time, an innocent farmer was returning home after a bad harvest crop. Then he told his family and friends about his trouble, to which they supported and showed sympathy towards this unlucky farmer by motivating him that next season would be better.
The next farming season, he tried crop rotation by shifting a different crop to yield maximum benefit and also to make the soil fertile, cause he shifted from wheat crop to cottonseed. After sowing the seeds, while he was settling fertilizer and pesticides out of nowhere the well overflowed and the water flooded the land where the crop of cottonseed was sown. After a few weeks, he hoped for more sunlight, for plants to grow better, but the poor fate of this farmer as on that particular day it rained. Even worse was the next day’s storm which plucked many plants through wind speed. Yet somehow the farmer kept going and at the time of harvest, he was shocked with just 4 tons of cotton produced because previously the same land would produce 25-30 tons.
This time it was too bad because the expenditure of the farmer was around ₹2,00,000 and the amount earned from the production of cotton was ₹ 1,50,000. Clearly showing that he was at a total loss after months of effort and spending so much time and energy. Eventually, he started thinking that nature is against him and is seeking bad luck for him.
So the next day he visited his farm and while looking upwards to the sky he started shouting angrily:
“Oh, God what the hell is wrong with you, why do you want to punish me? Why is it that every season I have a bad harvest? Please have mercy, I have a family to feed.”
And suddenly God appeared in front of him and asked what the matter is?
The unfortunate farm men angrily shouted in front of the lord, saying, “You Fake lord get out of this fake image of the supreme of the world because you don’t know what we humans suffer you don’t know what it takes to be a human and a farmer, you even don't have simple knowledge that when to give sunlight? when to allow rain or when to release air? You anonymous fellow - get lost.” - Said the poor farmer.
Seeing the frustration, God blessed him by granting the super-natural powers by which the farmer can take control of the environment.
A few months passed and the monsoon arrived.
The farmer sowed rice this time and after a few weeks at the time of sprinkling water, the farmer used his power and ordered clouds to rain, and it rained allowing the plants to become well soaked in water and after a week he commanded the sun to shine till dawn, which gave the plants enough light to grow. A few weeks later he again used his spells by altering the speed of wind for a time period of 8-10 days as per the plant's requirement.
A month then at the time of harvest, he went to his farmland with all the tools and tractor to extract the rice grain from the plant. Surprised was his reaction when he looked at the size of each crop, his jaw dropped to the neck level, eyes wide open. He had never seen such big and well-grown crops in his entire life. Proudly walking down to the field when he opened the twofold leaf to see the size of the rice grain, his eyes were shocked because there was no grain at all, then again he plucked a few more plants to see the grain but there were no grains in the plant, for one or two moments he lost his consciousness because the reality was too harsh to be accepted.
Lying under the tree, the farmer was dealing with mixed emotions, he was heated, sobbing, and angrily looked up and calling God, and again the supreme lord appeared in front of him and inquired, "Now what happened son, you have the powers, you can change the climate at your will and still you are suffering?"
The farmer complained, "Why did my crop fail? Why the grain wasn't produced? Although whenever the plant required sunlight and Water - I permitted it, and still what has happened?
God responded, " That earlier when I had the power, I allowed the crop to struggle and wait for sometime before receiving sunlight and water. This allowed the plant to develop patience and strength to grow, however in your case, you just supplied everything when the plant demanded, giving sunlight for more hours, raining water before time and this didn't plant to get stronger, and ultimately this plant didn't have the life injected in it. Moreover, you altered the weather of this whole world just for your own benefit, ignoring the consequences other people might have. Remember my son, when I gave power to any human then they only assist and make use of that power for themselves or their family, maybe if they are little sympathetic they would do good to society and country, but for me, all beings are my portion and I take care of you all, and according to everyone's capability and destiny I help them all unbiasedly."
Then the Farmed learned a lesson and tears of devotion started flowing from his eyes and he joined his hands in gratitude saying goodbye to the lord. From that day he became a great devotee of Lord Shiva and worshipped him all the time. Nevertheless, he didn't stop farming but after what he saw, learned, and realized - reduced the complaints which he had - like the weather is no good today or nature is partial, such obstacles gradually stopped and he happily enjoyed his farming. Now, the circumstances don't excite him, even when it rains he said - "Thank you! God", or if it was drought he would thank the supreme lord.
When a human taste a sense of gratitude - all the complaints, misery slowly evades not because the situation has changed, the situation is still the same but the seed of devotion, faith, and hope has blossomed in the heart of that being.
Therefore, Happiness is not a material aspect that can be gained and satisfied, instead, it is a pleasant state of being. And the answer to the question - How to stay happy all the time?
Is just this have gratitude towards nature, respect other people and animals, have god in your heart, invest some time for yourself by practicing yoga and meditation. Have faith that your present situation is a part of your life journey and it shouldn't affect your mental state, just like in the above story, the farmer had a blissful state no matter if throughout the year he faced drought.
Thank you so much,
For your time and energy.
